Plot Summary: A brother and sister in Japan must now contend with the demon that is haunting everyone in this franchise.
Review: I have one word for this film: pathetic. I have tried to figure where exactly this film fits in the mythos since there is much debate regarding it. I've read that it is a sequel, remake, or sidestory, but which is it actually?! The alternate title for this film also includes the number "2" as if this is the direct sequel to PA? I've also read it is canon while other sources say it's not. Basically, it's up to PA4 to tell us if this one has an actual place in the canon since, as it stands, this film is last chronologically. The movie's plot is that a girl named Haruka accidentally hit Katie with a car, while she was possessed, after the events of PA or PA2 (depending on your outlook) and killed her. Now the demon has transferred to haunting this Haruka girl while her weirdo brother takes care of her. Other than establishing Katie and looking her up on the internet (because of course that would just be on the internet translated into Japanese writing), this is just a cheap remake. Japan, I know you have every right to remake US movies considering how many they've remade from you, but don't fall into the same lame category of shitty American remakes! The way in which the events play out, 90% of the scenes, most of the scares, and just about everything else is straight from PA so I don't see how this could even remotely be considered a sequel. Worse, this movie fails in every regard while attempting to copy the tone and scenes. With so much room to work with, this could have been awesome especially with a Western/Christian understanding of demons meets Japanese culture. Yet the makers felt it would be better to pursue this ambiguous remake route? Nothing is scary, the acting sucks, we get no feel for the characters, lots of pointless scenes used for padding, and boring! Don't even bother with this one even though a fan of this franchise may be tempted to watch if they hadn't even heard of this entry. I am already way too generous with the rating mostly because there were a few good ideas albeit wasted.
Notable Moment: After the brother has been thrown at the camera and the sister creepily rises up from behind his body. This is the only good scene in the film.
