Asian Horror List (updated regularly)

Here is the long, long overdo list of all Asian horror movies I have reviewed. Titles are linked and organized by country to help make things easier. I have lumped in a few thrillers, mysteries, and oddities, but, for the most part, these are horror. Obviously I have also covered Asian drama, romance, action, etc. so check those out as well! Finally, if you notice a broken link, or whatever, let me know. Enjoy!

Yup, it's on the list and right here:

I found it! I was looking for it in the english title. I really like reading your review after seeing the movie to see if I understood it.

I don't have all the answers with some of these movies, but, thanks, I appreciate the sentiments!

I got Tales of Terror From Tokyo and all over Japan for Christmas. The entire collection it had been on my WL for a long time. Excited to dive into it. Was upsetting the dvd didnt come with a episode list, but i wrote them down myself. There's a lot of movies i still need to see on your list. But trying to avoid spoilers as well.
You should check out 2LDK.
I'm also looking for a movie called Confessions,it's based off a novel by the same name by Kanae Minato.
My horror collection itself is growing too. Glad i came across your page.

villainsrule said...

Congratulations! I hope you enjoy the episodes! I really wish they had made more.

Yeah, I do tend to spoil movies, but sometimes it's hard not to go over the positives and negatives otherwise especially since Asian horror is notorious for the make it or break it twists. There are plenty more movies on the horizon, I'm just having issues with the time to write up the reviews. However, I will look into those two recommendations you made.

Anyway, thanks for your sentiments...it's always appreciated!

I recently watched two japanese movies called Ghost System and Haze, and korean one called The Ghost or Dead friend, have you written reviews for them?

Castlerock said...

Also Death Bell...I haven't seen the sequel. I wonder if it's good.

villainsrule said...

I've watched "Haze" and "Death Bell." For "Death Bell" I never watched the sequel either so I didn't want to do a review yet. As for "Haze," it seemed too short--like an episode of a TV show--to do a full review. I also haven't watched it since it originally came out so maybe I can revisit it.

I do have a review of "The Ghost" on my list in Korean section :)

I never heard of "Ghost System," but it has pretty low ratings. Is it worth checking out?

Castlerock said...

Ghost System is a really slow and short movie. Lasts for about an hour. Not sure I can say it's worth checking out.
I didn't get the ending of Haze, I would love to read your interpretation of it.

I want to watch theeeeemmm. Thank you so much for sharing this

What are you wanting to watch most?

Castlerock said...

I just finished watching a korean movie called The Tunnel (2014)and I am somewhat confused.

villainsrule said...

I'll try to check that Tunnel movie out soon!

Here is the link to the movie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epGM2aRwO5M
I don't get why the post above says Unknown when it was me.....

Another movie I didn't get. The chinese movie called Walk With Me (2019). It has a stupid twist ending that for some reason felt forced to me. It seems to me that many movie makers want to have a twist at the end even if it doesn't make sense or maybe I'm just too dense.

Just finished watching a movie called Inside the girls. It was okay, was not confused. The last minute was stupid. I would delete it if it was my movie.

Hi,
I am seaching the name of an asian horror movie of which I remember only the storyline... :-(
Maybe someone of you recognizes the film and could tell me its name - thank you in advance!!!
Here is the plot:
Two men are hospitalized in the same room of an hospital. Both are temporarily paralyzed by accidents, but their condition improves daily.
Man#1 recognizes man#2 as the (potential) murderer of his wife, which he was searching for...
Man#2 knows that man#1 would kill him if he could... Hence, both men try to become healthy as fast as possible in order to kill the other first...

villainsrule said...

Hmm...sounds like a portion of "I Saw the Devil." But is this the entire plot you're thinking of? Could also be a segment from an anthology. Any more details you could provide if my guess is wrong?

Mr.Steed said...

Hi Villainsrule,
well, it is nearly the entire plot. They try to kill each other and near the end is a gory scene when they can already crawl through the room on all four limbs and try to finish each other. End of the story is, that the nurse had planned it all because she wanted revenge, too, for reasons I forgot. No, I think it was no anthology. And it was not Japanese. But it was a pretty good film, really.

I recently watched 5 movies in netflix and noticed that they are somewhat similar. The movies are The Doll (2016), The Doll 2 (2017), Sabrina (2018),The 3rd Eye (2017) and The 3rd Eye 2 (2019)from Indonesia. In all of them there is a vengeful spirit who kills but in the end it is revealed why it was killing. Although they killed people who had nothing to do with anything. Also, the main characters in all of them are possessed and turn really stabby. In the doll ones I can get if the evil spirit can move around then why do they need the doll. Have you seen them?

villainsrule said...

I haven't watched any of those yet, but I do have them saved. Are they any good? I have actually watched some movies from Shudder, but haven't had a chance to review them just yet.

Castlerock said...

I think they are okay, I was entertained. I thought the female main character of The Doll 2 and Sabrina (which is a spin off more like sequel) was beautiful, reminded me of Linda Carter. I hope you have time to review them all because you help me see things I didn't notice before.

villainsrule said...

I appreciate your sentiments! I do need to put out reviews more often. I've just had a weird schedule for a while. There are some movies I have lined up for review for sure.

Hi. I read some of your asian horror reviews and I’m happy you also watch films from my country. I’m hoping you can recognize this film I watched years ago. I was able to watch just a portion of it, and I really want to know how it went.

I think is from the beginning of the film. There was a man and a woman who went to a cinema. The woman went to the comfort room and encountered the ghost/monster there. What I remember is it somehow took the appearance of the woman and then went back to the man. After a few minutes, the man recognized that it was not the woman but something that copied her appearance, and the monster acknowledged that the man was right. The man asked the ghost/monster where the woman was and the monster said that she must have been left at the comfort room. That’s all I was able to watch.

I’m not entirely sure if this was a film, maybe it was an episode or from an anthology. I hope you know it. Thank you.

villainsrule said...

Hmm, sounds vaguely familiar. What country would you say the movie or segment was from? You said comfort room...so, is the movie Filipino? If so, might have been from one of the "Shake, Rattle & Roll" movies. Any other details you can provide?

Hello, thanks for replying. It looked like it’s from Japan.

Hello there,
I'm trying to help somebody on the j-horror subreddit find a very specific short j-horror story. This is how their post reads online:

"A woman chases a man/woman without running but by walking fast in a creepy way. I have been trying to find it for 5 years.

It was a japanese thriller/horror short story. I think it was about 20 minutes. I saw it on youtube. It was a story from a tv series that made many short stories.

I am not sure if this is what happened cause I did not watch it all, but maybe a woman/man visited a tradional house, talked with someone and left. I am not sure I just have some random images of something like this.

While walking in a dark alley, the man/woman hears footsteps. They look behind but see nothing. They keep walking and the sound of footsteps start again.

A woman in kimono appears and her shoes/slippers make noise. The woman in kimono starts chasing the man/woman. The woman in kimono is not running but walks very fast as if she was running.

The man/woman tries to escape. They try to cross a railroad but a passing train prevents them. They have to wait til the train passes in order to move forward. As they anxiously wait for the train to pass, the woman in kimono is getting closer."

Would anybody have any ideas as to what this show or episode is? Any suggestions would be tremendously appreciated! Thank you and have a safe day!

Do you have a link to the reddit? My first thought would be the "Rattle Rattle" segment from "Unholy Women," but that description is vague enough to be a wide variety of things.

It's so weird. The post was removed. The reddit users name is ilovemilkcake. I had entered a chat with them letting them know I was gonna try to help them and now going back into the chat with them, if I click their name to "view profile," Reddit says something went wrong and reloads the same message.

Unfortunately everything I posted was everything they wrote verbatim. I just copy pasted it. Guess we'll never know now, huh? I appreciate you responding back though. That was incredibly kind of you so thank you very much for that!

villainsrule said...

Glad to help. Just sucks that we'll never know. Oh well, maybe they figured it out on their own.

Thank you for your support. They ended up creating a new account and posting the topic again. They wrote me afterwards and said that someone on YouTube had told them it's from a show called "yonimo kimyona monogatari." Unless they delete the topic again, here is the link to their reddit post:

Hmm, if it's really from an episode of "Tales of the Unusual" then best of luck to the individual. I reviewed the movie version years ago, but I never had a chance to catch the original episodes. Thank you for following up! Now we (kinda) know the answer.

Just posting to say Hello! and hoping you are doing good.

villainsrule said...

Hi, thanks for checking in. Hope all is well with you as well. I need to step up my game and get some reviews out!

Castlerock said...

You're welcome. I often post links to your site whenever I solve a TOMT subreddit post, hope that brings more people over here.

villainsrule said...

Surprisingly that does bring people in. I review more obscure movies which gets people interested in some of the other weird movies on the site. I appreciate it--thanks!
